Studying Occupational Therapy at Curtin University in Perth, Sharon graduated in 1994 having completed an honours research dissertation with a focus area of quadriplegia and hand function. Sharon commenced working as an OT initially in the community paediatric field with Disability Services Commission and Therapy Focus; before embarking on a working holiday adventure in the United States practicing in community (school-based) paediatrics and slow stream adult rehabilitation, in Delaware and Maryland. Following a road trip across the US with her sister in a wood-panelled van, Sharon returned to Perth for a further 2 years working in school-based therapy, before traveling to the United Kingdom. It was in the United Kingdom that Sharon commenced work in the Acquired Brain Injury field, working at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in 1999-2000. Following this period, Sharon returned to Perth to work in the fields of Adult acquired brain injury (inpatient and outpatient), home visiting, and wheelchair prescription at Royal Perth Hospital, and then moved into a Case Coordination role at the State Head Injury Unit (Sir Charles Gairdner) for over 4 years. Sharon has enjoyed returning to the field of OT and Case Management in her new Lighthouse role, having joined the company in January 2015 following a few years’ break raising her family.
