Anna Vaughan

Senior Occupational Therapist

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

I graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2010, and have worked as an Occupational Therapist for over 14 years in a variety of organisations and settings, including specialist schools, not for profit organisations, community health, and private settings. I have also been working in various senior and clinical lead roles for the past 10 years.

What kind of clients have you worked with and what’s your clinical focus?

I have provided occupational therapy services to both children and adults, including those with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, vision impairment, spinal injuries, brain injuries, genetic conditions, and intellectual disabilities.

Children and adults with physical disability – including assistive technology, skill development, fine motor skills, wheelchairs and seating. Also mentoring junior and intermediate clinicians to build their skills and work effectively with clients.

Where have you worked, and how has that shaped your approach?

I have worked at specialist organisations including Aspect and Vision Australia, not for profit services such as St Giles in Tasmania, and private practices in the NSW Central Coast and Southern Highlands. I have also worked for NSW Health in the Child and Family team. I am passionate about working in a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach that focuses on individual strengths, interests, and needs, and addressing these in a fun, functional and client centred way.

What qualities help you make a difference?

I have a genuine interest in working with clients and supporting them to achieve what is meaningful for them through listening and building relationships.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I enjoy going to the beach or being outdoors, spending time with my husband and children, and reading or being creative. I also enjoy going to and teaching Pilates.
